Kamado Cooking

People Laughed When I Bought My Kamado, Until I Cooked The Juiciest Turkey Ever
It was around Christmas time, and I had a bunch of friends (including my Pastor) over for a dinner party. Anyway, I had to cook a turkey and I had just recently gotten this new kamado (ceramic grill) that I was dying to try, so I decided to cook the turkey in the kamado instead of in the oven.
Wow, what a difference it made! When I opened the kamado, I saw a fully cooked turkey which I began to carve into medallions. At first, I didn’t notice anything so remarkable, but as soon as the knife cut into the turkey, tons of juices gushed out.
I was horrified. Fears of it being raw went trough my mind, but as I studied the juices I realized that they were clear. The turkey was cooked all they way through. It had just been cooked with all its natural juices sealed in. And the kamado had done it better and easier then any oven.
Dinner was a huge success with everyone saying it was the juiciest turkey they’d ever had. It was so juicy, that there wasn’t even any need for cranberry sauce or gravy. (It was still available for those who liked it, but it wasn’t necessary to hide dry turkey.)
The next day, with a fridge full of turkey, I was delighted to find that the turkey was still so juicy and bursting with flavor that I actually looked forward to all those yummy turkey sandwiches.
My Pastor said it was the best turkey he’d ever had, and as you know, Pastors don’t lie.
FAQ About Kamados
What’s a kamado? A kamado is large outdoor ceramic grill, sort of like a very low temperature kiln used for cooking food.
What can you cook in
it? Anything, from beef, to poultry, pork, venison, and any kind of meat
you love, breads and vegetables. In fact most anything you can cook in the kitchen.
Why’s a kamado better then an oven? That’s an easy question; Kamados are better able to keep low temperatures consistently for longer periods of time then a normal oven. This means you never have to worry about fluxations in temperature that can ruin your meat. Also, kamados are outdoors, so they don’t heat up your whole house. (So you don’t have to let a scorching day ruin your dinner.)
Why’s a kamado better then a grill? Of course kamados are better for slow cooking, roasting and baking, better than any grill could ever be, but there’s another reason they’re better then grills. That reason is rain or cold. It’s no fun grilling in the rain; not only do you have to stand there and watch it, all those constant drops of cold water will really reek havoc with your grill’s temperature, causing uneven cooking. However, with a Kamodo, not only does the ceramic body keep the inside insulated and protected from the rain, you don’t have to watch it, so now, you can be inside with your family and friends.
Do kamados come in metal? No, and why would you want them to? Seriously though, in the 1960’s, companies tried making them out of metal, figuring it was the same. Only, it wasn’t the same at all. Ceramic is the best choice for even heat distribution and overall temperature control. That’s why ceramic is used to protect the space shuttle and why so many plates, cups and ‘fine china’ is made out of it too.
Are all kamados the same? No. the difference in kamados is, quite simply, the difference in clays. There is a lot more to clay then people think. That stuff at the edge of riverbanks isn’t really clay, it’s just mud. Different clays have different ingredients added to them to regulate temperature, increase durability and do many other things too. Our Kamados are made of a special clay mixture that we create ourselves. You can’t find our secret clay mixture at any other kamado source in the world.
Do they come in
sizes? Currently no, but we'll be offering more next spring.
So, now that know all about kamados, are you ready to buy a one and be the envy of all your friends as they bite down on that soft, juicy, succulent meat?

Hi Paul,
The best way to prepare meat and poultry is to roast it and nothing roasts as good as a charcoal fired kamado. Breads and vegetables are great too.
I own a Grill Pod sold by California Kamado over two years ago and use it at least 4 times a week, often times more. We cook everything; meat, bread, potatoes and vegetables right on the kamado.

P.S Any ceramic oven over 1/2" is good, but before you buy a Kamado Grill, please check out the Kamado Fraud forum at www.kamadofraudforum.org

I just was learning about how to brine a turkey and hear that the Kamado is awesome for cooking it.
What Kamado grill did you get and how long ago? I'm torn between the Kamado Grill and the Komodo Kamado Grill.
